About this event
Dive into the history of the Rebellion of 1837 through the story of David Gibson, a surveyor who found himself playing a leading role in Mackenzie's army. From the rebel meetings held at his home to the dramatic day the government burned his house down in vengeance, learn about the failed revolution. Gather inside the famed surveyor's house for this rare opportunity to revisit the site of chaos that engulfed the city back in 1837. From October 2026 to April 2027, historian Adam Bunch brings Toronto’s history to life in a series of talks exploring the Upper Canada Rebellion and its lasting impact on the city. From spies and taverns to political reform, rural rebels and the Patriot War, each talk reveals a different story connected to the museum where it takes place.
