Rebellion Talks: Booze, Taverns & Rowdy Rebels
History · Museum · Talks
About this event
Learn the role Toronto's raucous taverns played in the political tensions leading up to the Rebellion of 1837. In the middle of the 1800s, taverns played a central role in political life. Montgomery’s Inn served as a watering hole during those tense years, making it the perfect place to discuss Toronto’s tavern history and how these places helped set the stage for Mackenzie’s attempted revolution. From October 2026 to April 2027, historian Adam Bunch brings Toronto’s history to life in a series of talks exploring the Upper Canada Rebellion and its lasting impact on the city. From spies and taverns to political reform, rural rebels and the Patriot War, each talk reveals a different story connected to the museum where it takes place.
