About this event

A temporary public art installation, Planter is an eco-sculpture inspired by the amorphous shapes of old growth forest nursery logs. Planter is one of three sculptures installed across Toronto for a project entitled Ecogenders. These three installations collaborate with their respective ecosystems to decay and regrow into the land. They are sites of transition and, in this way, outposts of possible gender expansive futures. The work is made of ethically sourced wood from urban trees around Toronto at the end of their life cycle. The sculpted form is achieved through a hybrid fabrication technique of digital machine milling and hand carving. Deanna Armenti (Fae/Faer, She/Her) is a Queer, Faegender interdisciplinary artist and researcher. She is a PhD candidate at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in the Media and Design Innovation program. Deanna’s arts practice is a multimodal exploration of Transfuturist worldbuilding.
